1975 scarves?

Hi, I am wanting to get a 1975 scarf (for a friend born in '75 and is turning 50 soon). Would there be some way to find out what those designs are — those that were first issued in 1975, and/or the actual scarves produced that year (could be a 1975 issue of an earlier design)? Thanks in advance!

Well, I’d call that the very defintion of a great friend! Remind me to get one who gives me an Hermes scarf on my birthday…
So, which scarves? Well, you have quite a choice. There’s Tally Ho by Karin Swilders. Or L’hiver en poste (very nice) by Philippe Ledoux. Clearly 1975 was a bit of a golden year for M. Ledoux since he also had published that year Livree Imperiale, Carrosserie(s), and even Carrossier which is a separate scarf. But personally I’d go for the mighty Vladimir Rybaltchenko’s Les Cavaliers d’or which I personally a-dore (see what I did there?). It is a design based on the awesome examples of Scythian gold which are exhibited in the Pechersk Lavra (monastery) in Kiyv, Ukraine and very fine examples they are too - probably made by Greek colonist craftsmen on the Black Sea coast either commissioned by or acquired by Scythian rulers in the vast grass steppe lands which extend from Hungary to Mongolia. There are other examples (eg in the Hermitage) but the Pechersk collection is by some way the best, IMHO.
Quite a few examples of this design pop up on the resale market and it comes in a range of colours, so you have options to play with.
A bit of a google suggests that there are different dates attached to different scarves by different people. I’m not aware of an authoratitive database by date of issue (if anyone does, please tell!). And of course if you include re-issues, or even special editions which tended to get issues a year or so after the main design had been made publicly available, then you have even more options. So there may well be other “1975” (however you define that) designs that I’ve not thought of.
Good luck choosing!

Hi I created a collection on Scarfsage with the 1975 that are in the database !

mmm loving Tennis… and Roulis is crazy in a very unHermes sort of way.

Thank you so much for this info! I really appreciate all the detail and suggestions and will start scouting on eBay for one of these!

Thank you so much for putting this together…that’s a huge help!
